First came the position taken by the AVS group leader in the City Council, Anna Arca Sedda, and then by the ANPI "Marisa Musu" branch in Alghero. The solidarity movement is growing for Mahmoud Idrissa Boune, a Malian citizen who has lived in Alghero since 2013 and who recently swore an oath of allegiance to the Italian Republic. After obtaining citizenship, he was the target of a series of offensive messages on social media.
"I wish to publicly express my full and unconditional solidarity with Mahamoud Idrissa, the victim of derogatory content recently appearing on social media," says Anna Arca Sedda. "It is intolerable that, in 2026, we still have to witness such insidious forms of hatred, based on prejudices that aim to undermine people's dignity rather than foster a constructive debate on integration, a fundamental pillar of any civil society." The AVS group leader calls the phenomenon extremely serious. "On the one hand," she emphasizes, "it is deeply disturbing to see how there are those who, devoid of any sense of shame, deliberately choose to expose themselves to spread discriminatory messages; on the other, it is even more despicable to see those who cowardly hide behind the anonymity of fake profiles to spew venom. Both of these practices are hallmarks of despicable behavior, which has nothing to do with freedom of expression, but rather constitutes a specific and conscious intent to sow intolerance and racism."
Arca Sedda also announced his intention to contact the relevant authorities. "I will not remain inactive in the face of such outrages. I will appeal to the relevant authorities to report this criminal behavior. It is time for those who use the internet to spread hatred, whether they do so openly or under the cover of a fake profile, to understand that such actions have real consequences and that impunity is no longer tolerable." The ANPI "Marisa Musu" section of Alghero has also intervened in the matter, expressing its full solidarity with the new Italian citizen. The association recalls that it welcomed Mahmoud Idrissa Boune's oath of allegiance to the Republic with great interest and pleasure, but states that it was deeply annoyed and disgusted to read the insults that appeared on Facebook. "The ANPI "Marisa Musu" section of Alghero expresses its full solidarity with Mahmoud Idrissa and will always stand alongside those who fight for the freedom, equality, and dignity of every person, fundamental values affirmed by our democratic Constitution, born from the Resistance to Nazi-Fascism."
