The environmental association Gruppo d'Intervento Giuridico intervened with a specific act of "observations" in the environmental impact assessment procedure relating to the "Mistral Floating Wind Farm" wind farm project , proposed by the Mistral Floating Wind Park srl (Acciona Group) in the Sea of Sardinia, overlooking Alghero, the Planargia, the northern coasts of Sinis.
The GRIG requested a declaration of non-environmental compatibility of the project. The project involves the construction of an off shore wind farm, with 32 "wind towers" more than 200 meters high, on a marine surface area of hundreds of hectares, approximately 35 kilometers (approximately 19 nautical miles) from the coast of North West Sardinia.
The expected power is 15 MW for each "floating wind tower" for a total of 480 MW , while the expected life of the wind farm would be 30 years and the connecting cable should land on the mainland on the Alghero coast, from where a new power line starts towards electrical stations and the Ittiri grid connection station (to be upgraded).
The Grig had already intervened with a specific act of opposition (on 28 June 2022), against "the release of the requested thirty-year maritime state concession in the absence of any authorization act".
Now, since the maritime state concession has not been released, a ruling on environmental compatibility has been requested and the EIA procedure is underway.
«Apart from the visibility from the coasts of Alghero and Planargia (19 nautical miles certainly do not guarantee the disappearance from the horizon of wind "towers" hundreds of meters high from the water), the main elements of danger for the environment and fauna concern the far from verified interference with the migratory routes of wild avifauna (with particular reference to the nesting colonies of Griffon Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Queen's Falcon, as well as migratory species), as demonstrated by the risk maps for wild avifauna prepared by BirdLife International, and of marine fauna, in particular of the common dolphin and sea turtle - states the association - The direct and indirect effects on navigation, fishing and in the event of accidents (falling rotors, fall of wind turbines, etc.)".
