Once again, a story of pain transformed into hope comes from the San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro . On January 21st, the Nuoro hospital's multidisciplinary team successfully completed a challenging multi-organ harvest , the second in just ten days, made possible by the choice of a young woman to donate. "The young donor's family," confirms Pierina Ticca, head of the Local Transplant Coordination at San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro, "has given their consent to organ donation, highlighting the donor's extraordinary generosity and allowing several people on the transplant waiting list to continue living."
Once again, the collection was made possible thanks to the well-established teamwork involving the Local Transplant Coordination, the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit, and the Hospital Health Management. The contribution of the Operating Theatre, Radiology, Analysis Laboratory, and the collection surgeons, who worked in collaboration with the Regional Transplant Center of Sardinia and the National Transplant Center, was crucial.
Francesco Trotta , General Director of the Nuoro Local Health Authority (ASL 3), also commented on these two exceptional interventions. Just two weeks after his arrival in Nuoro, he was able to personally witness the high level of professionalism and effective teamwork within the Nuoro hospital. "I want to express my profound thanks to all the professionals at our hospital , to all those involved who ensured the smooth running of the entire donation process, and to the specialist teams who performed the collection, for the high level of expertise and sensitivity demonstrated throughout every phase of such a complex and delicate process. But my deepest thoughts," emphasized General Director Trotta, "go to the two young women and their families . Their choices represent an act of immense love, capable of transcending an unimaginable tragedy and restoring hope and life to other patients. It is a tremendous testament to the value of organ donation for the entire community, which I have already seen to be extraordinarily sensitive and generous."
