The FAI is preparing for the FAI Autumn Days, which will be held nationwide on October 11th and 12th. This year, the event will be open for a special two-day visit. For two days, the public will be able to visit part of the Mamone Prison (one of the very few remaining and still operating open-air penal colonies).
"There are several reasons that led us to make this choice: on the one hand, interest in the natural environment surrounding the facility, which is very evocative and diverse, featuring diverse landscapes with distinct characteristics related to the varying altitudes across its 2,700 hectares," say the local FAI (Italian National Trust). Visits to the Mamone Penal Colony will be possible only by reservation, to be made on the FAI booking website, which has been active since this afternoon.
You can choose the time slot that's most convenient for you, keeping in mind that the visit will last approximately one hour. Entries are limited and registration takes time, so we recommend booking as early as possible, preferably by October 5th or 6th. When booking, please send a copy of your ID to gfamamone@fondoambiente.it.
Only in the event of overbooking will you receive an email notification; otherwise, your request will be considered accepted. Visitors must be at the site entrance, where they will be greeted by FAI volunteers, 20 minutes before their scheduled visit time, and must present identification. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legally authorized person who must sign a waiver. To facilitate transportation to Mamone, the delegation is providing members (and, if there are still places available, non-members) with a bus departing from Piazza Veneto at 7:30 a.m. on both Saturdays and Sundays.
