Nuoro, Mount Ortobene dries up and changes color: drones in flight to reveal the "mystery"
Dramatic scenario, hundreds of hectares affected. Experts from the University of Sassari are working to find the causes: drought, killer fungus or climate change?Dramatic scene on Mount Ortobene, where the vegetation is progressively changing color due to “drying out”.
To understand the causes, the University of Sassari has launched a study and started with reconnaissance from above, using drones that have taken flight in the skies of Nuoro to try to find useful elements to understand the causes of what is happening.
"The affected area is very large, we are talking about hundreds and hundreds of hectares", explain to Tg di Videolina Antonio Deidda and Andrea Brandano, researchers from the University of Sassari. "It is a phenomenon - they add - that initially affected the coast and is now gradually pushing towards the interior of the island. The ones that are affected are mainly the holm oaks, but not only".
Experts are tight-lipped about the causes. There are many hypotheses in play, from drought to a “killer” fungus, through the effects of climate change. But a mix of these events that are gradually causing significant alterations to the territory is not excluded.
