It was supposed to be a scheduled maintenance and redevelopment project. Instead, it has turned into a new nightmare for Nuoro: the Janna 'e Ferru pipeline, already the subject of the remediation measures announced in recent days by Abbanoa, collapsed overnight, and now risks leaving much of the city without water.

Just two days ago, Abbanoa announced the start of renovation work on the Janna 'e Ferru aqueduct, which involved using the trenchless relining technique to rehabilitate approximately 3 kilometers of the pipeline. To avoid a total interruption in supply, a temporary bypass pipeline was planned to be installed to supply the city's reservoirs during the works. Despite these precautions, the situation deteriorated. During the night, a rupture occurred in the pipeline undergoing repairs, with serious consequences for the entire city water system.

Abbanoa's official notice specifies that water will be guaranteed only until the supplies accumulated in the tanks are exhausted.

With the tanks emptying, the disruption will extend to the entire Nuoro area, including the Prato Sardo industrial area, the Lollove district, and the Monte Ortobene area.

Once supplies are exhausted, many customers will no longer receive water. Water service will be restored only once the pipeline repairs are completed.

The case once again highlights the historical fragility of the Janna 'e Ferru aqueduct and the urgency of far more thorough structural interventions. This isn't the first time a pipeline failure has resulted in days of severe disruption.
