The project for the restyling of the Cagliari coast has been approved. The commissioner: conclusion of the works by the end of 2023New dunes, more resistant to erosion. And shaded spaces for smokers, with the construction of gazebos and pergolas at each stop. The Municipality redesigns the Poetto beach: the executive project – created by the Associated Professional Studio – has been approved. «By the end of the year we plan to award the contract, then the works will start», explains the municipal councilor of Cagliari , with responsibility for sea policies, Alessandro Guarracino, «the conclusion of the intervention is scheduled for December 2023 If it doesn't finish earlier, an interruption is still calculated during the summer season, to guarantee the usability of the beach».
Beach that needs to be preserved. This is why the "Tu.Va.Ri.Am. Poetto 1" project was launched, for the "Protection and enhancement of environmental resources" of the Centomila beach.
It concerns, it is explained, an intervention " through protection activities that are carried out in the "best practices" to be adopted in the management and use of the environmental matrices constituted by the coast". What is expected? The "safeguarding and maintenance of the dunes, through their protection, and jointly a scientific dissemination that brings greater awareness of the fragility of the Poetto system and a compatible use of the environmental resource".
Specifically , the dunes will be “closed with ropes and wooden poles fixed with special signs that prohibit trampling and the abandonment of waste. Explanatory billboards of a permanent informative scientific nature". Furthermore, the "maintenance of the protections already carried out by cleaning the eco filters and restoring the dune protections constituted by the checkerboard windbreak screens" is foreseen.
One of the objectives is "to prevent the transport of sand to the adjacent roadway and therefore create a natural barrier to the wind transport of sand for winds from the southern quadrants". Therefore, " an adequate deposit area will be set up where to deposit any volumes of sand collected by manual sweeping on the roadway which, after environmental characterization, will be returned to the beach".
The access roads to the beach will also be redesigned: they will no longer be perpendicular to the shoreline but parallel to the road, to form a further barrier.
«The possibility of access for the disabled will also be strengthened», assures Guarracino, «and areas for smokers will be created: they will be used during the period of validity of the ordinances against cigarettes», he underlines, «we also thought of those who have this need ».
An investment of 900 thousand euros is foreseen for the entire operation.
