A comparison of neuroscience, philosophy, and clinical hypnosis to rethink treatment and the individual in an integrated way.

The Rotary Club Cagliari Sud, under the patronage of the Order of Surgeons and Dentists of the Province of Cagliari, is promoting the conference “The Healing Gaze: Hypnosis, Neuroplasticity and the Transforming Mind” , which will be held on Wednesday 12 November at the Caesar's Hotel in Cagliari.

The initiative, open to the public and in line with Rotary's values and mission, will bring together three exceptional speakers: Silvano Tagliagambe, professor emeritus of Philosophy of Science at the University of Sassari, Giovanni Biggio, professor emeritus of Neuropsychopharmacology, and Danilo Sirigu, director of the Experimental Ultrasound and Transplant Service at Brotzu Hospital.

The event, the promoters explain, was born from a roundtable discussion hosted at the Rotary Club. Recognizing the three experts' high level of professionalism and depth in topics intertwining philosophy of mind, neuroscience, and clinical practice, we decided to transform that discussion into a structured event open to the community.

The goal is to offer an authoritative and accessible space to share with the public what research and clinical practice can do today—especially in Sardinia—when different disciplines truly converge.

The relationship between mind and body is a central topic of scientific reflection today. Neuroscience has shown how thoughts, emotions, and relational experiences can measurably alter the structure and functioning of the brain, thanks to the mechanisms of neuroplasticity. This represents a radical shift in perspective: the mind is no longer seen as a separate or immaterial entity, but as a dynamic, embodied process capable of influencing biology itself.

In this scenario, clinical hypnosis takes on a special role. It is not simply a technique, but a form of profound communication that allows access to the most intimate levels of internal experience, promoting the reorganization of resources and experiences.

The conference will present research, clinical cases, and perspectives on the application of hypnosis in contemporary medical practice, highlighting how it can interact with traditional medicine and neuroscientific models. It will demonstrate how hypnosis has been of great assistance in clinical situations and in the treatment of conditions requiring integrated work on the emotional and physiological components.

This will open a space for reflection that unites philosophy, science, and clinical practice, in a vision of care that considers the person as a whole: biological, psychological, and existential. It will be an opportunity for professionals, enthusiasts, and citizens interested in understanding how the mind can be transformed—and transform—through the lens of care.
