William Serra, 38, has been arrested on charges of voluntary manslaughter, aggravated robbery, and attempted destruction of a corpse. He is believed to be responsible for the killing of Giovanni Musu , the 53-year-old found dead on the night between Friday, January 16th and Saturday, January 17th in the Colle di Rosmarino park in Carbonia. He is believed to have been implicated by text messages in which he confessed to the crime and by footage from surveillance cameras .

A few hours after the crime, Serra allegedly sent messages to his partner confessing to the murder, saying, "I killed him." By cross-referencing the testimonies gathered and the video footage from local security cameras, the Carabinieri of the Carbonia company and the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command traced Serra. " The victim ," the Carabinieri explain, " was allegedly lured to the park under the pretext of a meeting related to the sale of narcotics. Upon arriving at the scene, the 53-year-old was allegedly attacked with unprecedented violence: the autopsy revealed the presence of at least thirteen stab wounds , some of which were in vital organs, as well as a deep lesion to the throat." After killing him, Serra allegedly took the victim's wallet and cell phone and then attempted to set fire to the body using a garbage bag.

"Crucific evidence," the Carabinieri said, "emerged from the searches , which led to the discovery of clothing consistent with that worn by the man filmed by the cameras as he left the crime scene, which apparently contained traces of blood." Shortly after 2:00 PM today, the Carabinieri arrived at Serra's home and arrested him as he was leaving to go to the barracks, where he is currently being held before being transferred to a cell in Uta prison, a few kilometers from Cagliari. "I reserve the right to review the documents," said lawyer Fabio Basile. "I intend to analyze them and speak carefully with my client in the coming days, then we will decide how to proceed."

The other suspect

Marco Atzeni, the fifty-year-old man also under investigation, along with William Serra, arrested this afternoon for the murder of Giovanni Musu, was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

According to investigations conducted by the Carabinieri of Carbonia and the Investigative Unit of Cagliari, Atzeni was in the park during the time the crime occurred but had no role in the murder for which Serra was arrested.

The arrested man allegedly tried to implicate Atzeni during the interrogations.

Both men, as well as the victim, were known to law enforcement. They were all in the Colle di Rosmarino park in Carbonia for drug-related matters.
