Murder Fara, Dettori on trial in Sassari: "I am in prison as an innocent"

The trial of Claudio Dettori , the 24 -year-old homeless accused of the murder of the bartender Antonio Fara , 47, found dead with broken skull in his apartment in via Livorno, in Sassari, on the morning of April 23, 2021 .
The victim had been hosting the accused at his home for some time.
Dettori must also answer for aggravated robbery : from the bartender's purse he allegedly took 700 euros before he mortally grated it and escaped from the house.
The Court, presided over by Judge Mauro Pusceddu (on the sidelines Giulia Tronci), accepted the request for terms of defense presented by the lawyer Piera Meloni, appointed ex officio on 1 June after the resignation from the office of the lawyers Antonio Sanna and Marco Palmieri.
Dettori was present in the courtroom and asked to speak to challenge his prison regime again. "I have been detained for a year and a month in Bancali - he began - I feel out of place inside the prison , not holding myself responsible for the accusations against me. I had already expressed my difficulties and I hoped that someone had listened to my statements. Instead I continue to find myself in an inconvenient situation ".
THE ACCUSATION - According to the Prosecutor's Office, the accused killed Fara for the purpose of robbery , finishing him with a hammer after trying to suffocate and beat him savagely , and then escaped by climbing over the wall of an internal courtyard. The 24-year-old had been tracked down and arrested by the carabinieri in a small garden on the outskirts of the city, the very evening of the discovery of the body.
In the next hearing , scheduled for June 13 , the first four witnesses called to testify by prosecutor Giovanni Porcheddu will be heard: they are the Carabinieri of the Company of Sassari and of the Cagliari Scientist who carried out the first investigations.
Today the victim's family were present in the courtroom, who filed a civil action with the lawyer Simone Pisano, and numerous friends of Antonio Fara, in an atmosphere still of strong pain and emotion.
