Muravera: Barracelli fishermen bring 500 kilos of stolen sand and shells back to the beaches.

Over five hundred kilos of sand, shells, and pebbles seized at Cagliari-Elmas airport during the summer season have returned to Costa Rei and Capo Ferrato (including their coves).
The Muravera barracelli (refugees) took care of relocating the stolen goods—the sand was contained in hundreds of plastic bottles that the predatory tourists wanted to take home as a souvenir of Sardinia—even though they are not yet operational.
"They asked us," said Commander Daniela Battaglia, "and we gladly agreed, even though our situation is still on hold due to bureaucratic issues. We're still waiting for funding for 2023-25. We hope the situation will be resolved within this month. We've repositioned the sand, especially at Costa Rei, while we've gone to the coves for the pebbles."
Since their establishment in 2017, the barracelli have been responsible for repositioning sand along the Muravera coastline virtually every year, in collaboration with volunteers from "Sardegna Rubata e Depredata" (Sardinia Rubata and Depredata). The worrying fact is the steady increase in seized material: from 200 kilos in the initial years to 500 kilos in 2026.
The Muravera municipal administration thanked the barracelli, "who, despite not currently operating," according to a statement, " promptly volunteered to help with the recovery from the airport and for the valuable work of repositioning the boats on the beach."
