Gabriele Doro, four-time Italian champion, fights on the mat and off it. He founded SDA Team Doro, with which he dreams of reviving the glory days of wrestling in the city, giving other promising youngsters the opportunity to emerge. The athlete was welcomed at the Palazzo Ducale where he received the official pennant of the Municipality of Sassari from Mayor Giuseppe Mascia, Councilor for Sport Nicoletta Puggioni, and Councilor for Infrastructure, Mobility and Traffic Massimo Rizzu, with whom he shares a friendship and mutual respect.
Gabriele Doro, 28, from Sassari and a member of the national wrestling team for five years, has an impressive track record: 13 national medals, including four Italian championship titles, four appearances with Italy at the European Championships, two World Championships – one of which resulted in a respectable fifth place – a recent bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games, and finally, a promising debut in MMA.
The most valuable result, however, awaits the city administration. Mayor Mascia assured: "We are working resolutely to address the historic shortage of sports facilities for all disciplines by renovating currently unusable structures and building new gyms and spaces. We will do everything we can to help you realize your dream and help so many promising young athletes can pursue theirs."
