There were moments of concern last night aboard the MSC Splendida: a 59-year-old Swiss passenger fell ill while the cruise ship was sailing from Cagliari to Palermo. The woman was diagnosed with a suspected cerebral hemorrhage and required immediate transfer to shore.

The alarm was raised around 8:00 PM, when the ship's command contacted the Operations Room of the 13th Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) in Cagliari. After consulting the International Radio Medical Centre (CIRM) and assessing the passenger's condition, the Coast Guard patrol boat CP 2100 was dispatched.

Upon reaching the ship, the crew transferred the woman and set sail for the port of Cagliari. The rescue operation concluded around 9:30 PM, when the 59-year-old was handed over to 118 emergency medical personnel. She was then transported to Brotzu Hospital, where she underwent treatment and medical checks.

The operation is part of the maritime search and rescue efforts coordinated by the Operations Centers of the Cagliari Maritime Directorate, responsible for the central and southern part of Sardinia. The rescue operation relies on Coast Guard patrol boats, helicopters from the Coast Guard Helicopter Section in Decimomannu, and personnel from the Diving Unit.
