On the Sella del Diavolo promontory in Cagliari, bicycles are prohibited. It's a protected area, and the municipality posted signs indicating the ban since June. However, those signs have now disappeared.

The report comes from the association Gruppo d'intervento legale: "In June 2026, the Municipality of Cagliari finally placed signs prohibiting mountain bikes on the Sella del Diavolo, a protected landscape site included in the Natura 2000 Network."

"In recent years, in fact, vegetation has continued to be cleared to create new mountain bike trails," they stated in a statement, "with the resulting serious erosion of soil and natural habitats that were only protected on paper. A minority of bikers selfishly and arrogantly want to continue doing as they please on the Devil's Saddle. Several signs have disappeared, and they certainly didn't come from Japan to steal them."
