Mouflon invasion in Arbatax: Regional government plans capture and relocation

A technical meeting was held today in Tortolì to define the operational actions and related timelines for the continuation of the capture and relocation of the mouflons present in Arbatax.
During the meeting, an inspection was conducted to identify a suitable and adequately fenced area for the temporary containment of the animals. The composition of the technical task force was also determined . The task force, coordinated by the Department of the Environment, will oversee the continuation of the capture and translocation activities.
A statement from the Region explains that the operational procedures for the various phases of the intervention have been shared. These include monitoring the herd, identifying capture sites, attractive feeding activities, capture using cage traps, assessing the animals' health status, collecting and processing biological samples for genetic typing, identifying the specimens, and subsequently relocating them to the designated sites.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Department of Nature Protection and Forestry Policies, as well as representatives of the Municipality of Tortolì, the Forestas Agency (Territorial Services of Lanusei and Sassari), the Forestry Department (Territorial Service Departmental Inspectorate of Lanusei), the Ogliastra Local Health Authority (Veterinary Service), and the Tortolì Zooprophylactic Institute.
