A happy ending for two hunting dogs lost in a remote area of Monte Arcosu, in southern Sardinia.
The rescue operation was completed yesterday afternoon by the Cagliari firefighters , at the end of a complex operation made difficult by the morphology of the territory and adverse weather conditions.
The call for help reached the operations room after the animals' owner , who had been searching for several days, managed to locate them using GPS coordinates. At that point, rescuers intervened: the diving unit and the SAF (Speleo Alpino Fluviale) team from the provincial command's operations center were dispatched to the scene.
The firefighters entered the impervious area of Monte Arcosu and, once they identified the reported point, they reached the two dogs using a rafting dinghy and applying river flood rescue (SFA) techniques.
The animals were secured and subsequently entrusted to the owner, resulting in excellent health conditions .
The recovery operations lasted for several hours due to environmental difficulties and bad weather, but were successfully completed.
