A new multi-organ donation was performed at the Duilio Casula Polyclinic in Monserrato . Thanks to the living consent of a 61-year-old donor , four organs suitable for transplantation were successfully harvested: a heart, liver, and kidneys , providing new hope to those waiting for a transplant.
The successful transplant was the result of a multidisciplinary effort involving specialists from both the continent and the region , led by Dr. Marcello Saba, local transplant coordinator at the Cagliari University Hospital, in collaboration with the Regional Transplant Center, directed by Dr. Lorenzo D'Antonio.
"A heartfelt thank you to the patient who, with her consent to donate," Saba stated, "made all this possible and gave new life to several recipients awaiting transplants . Furthermore, we wish to extend our deepest condolences to her family."
The observation and organ harvesting activities, Saba explains, "were made possible thanks to the dedication and professionalism of all the professionals involved, who helped us achieve the desired result ."
We thank, continues the transplant coordinator of the AOU of Cagliari Saba, «all the operators of the Duilio Casula Polyclinic involved, of the Anesthesia and Resuscitation department directed by Professor Gabriele Finco , of the Neurology department directed by Professor Monica Puligheddu and the electroencephalography technicians, of the Radiology department directed by Professor Luca Saba , of the Analysis Laboratory directed by Doctor Elena Poma , of the company Medical Management under the guidance of Doctor Cinzia Aresu and of the ambulance service that organised the transport of the team and the organs».
