Monserrato increasingly "green": the public green redevelopment plan approved
The creation of vegetable gardens and school gardens is planned. New flowers and shrubs will be planted in roundabouts and avenuesThe roundabouts and avenues of Monserrato will become increasingly greener with the planting of new plants and essences, the constant care of the lawn and the planting of trees even in the flowerbeds of the traffic islands. These are the main interventions that will be carried out thanks to the 2024/2026 three-year public greenery plan just approved by the Council. The annual amount for maintenance is approximately 287 thousand euros. The next step will be to go to the City Council for approval and then the identification of the company that will have to manage the public green areas in the coming years.
The Plan, as well as the census of the greenery present in the city and the contract to be awarded, is drawn up by the agronomist Raimondo Congiu . In recent years, maintenance interventions have increased and further green areas have been created, including the park in via Caracalla, that in via Boezio, the areas of piazza Settimio Severo and piazza Perù, via Sant'Angelo, via Germanico and, last in order of time, the park of the former cemetery. All these redevelopments were financed with the administration surplus for a total of almost 500 thousand euros. For this year the Municipality has allocated another 350 thousand which will be used for the construction and maintenance of the new spaces. The three-year plan contract also includes sums for verifying the stability of the trees as well as the necessary phytosanitary treatments.
«Currently there is no greenery contract, but a temporary assignment to the I Progetti cooperative which, however, given the temporary nature of the assignment, cannot work with a specific long-term plan», explains the Environment Councilor Paola Piroddi . «The Plan that we will now bring to the chamber allows us to have a clear understanding of the areas where it is necessary to intervene with precise planning and no longer based on the urgencies and needs that arise from time to time. Through the close connection between the Environment, Urban Planning and Public Works sectors, the situation of all the new green areas that will be included in the contract is finally clear". There is also a part dedicated to the creation and care of vegetable gardens in school gardens, which will also be followed by the Department of Public Education. «With the greenery plan and the new contract there will be many improvements and a direct relationship between the successful tenderers and the municipal administration. However, we give credit to the I Progetti cooperative", adds the mayor Tomaso Locci .
