Monastir, success for the celebration in honor of Saint Lucia
Rites from Thursday to Sunday: closing with the concert in the Matia Bazar squareThe celebrations in honor of Saint Lucy, co-patron saint together with Saint Peter, ended yesterday in Monastir.
The rites began last Thursday, with the dressing of the Saint in the Parish of San Pietro, where the simulacrum rests all year, which as per tradition was done by the women of the committee, to whom however this year a man was added by promise, always from the organizing group.
The event continued on Friday with the traditional delivery of the bells for the yoke of the oxen that accompany Saint Lucia on her pilgrimage to the country church the following day.
On Sunday the return of the simulacrum from the small country church to the Parish in the centre of Monastir accompanied by a river of people.
"We are very happy, the religious celebration was very heartfelt and well attended this year. We are also satisfied with the civil events: many participated in the various proposals that took place between the square in front of the Parish and the Park of Santa Lucia", says Cinzia Cinus, president of the celebrations.
The important number of faithful and visitors was also underlined by the municipal administration, which complimented the committee for the work done in these days: «As an administration we are very satisfied with the work done by the committee for both the civil and religious celebrations», declared the deputy mayor Gianluca Lampis, «a great success with the public in all the days that contributed to the promotion of the territory and the valorization of the local cultural and religious traditions».
Yesterday was the final day: after the Holy Mass at 6:30 pm and the subsequent procession through the streets of the town, Matia Bazar closed the festival with a concert in Piazza Govoni and Cervi from 10:30 pm onwards.
