A weekend of severe weather in Sardinia, with the island facing yet another emergency. The latest weather alert issued by the regional Civil Protection Department—valid until 9:00 a.m. this morning—stated a yellow code (ordinary criticality) for flood and hydrogeological risk in the areas of Iglesiente, Campidano, Montevecchio Pischinappiu, Flumendosa Flumineddu, Tirso, and Logudoro.
Uprooted trees, structural collapses, damaged roads, roofs blown off, and flooded homes: this is the preliminary toll of these difficult days. Firefighters are working nonstop, and the emergency is not yet over.
The numbers reveal the extent of the severe weather: over a thousand firefighters have responded since February 11th, with more than 600 firefighters deployed across the region. Since last night, crews have been working primarily to remove fallen trees and clear roads and driveways. In the province alone, approximately 250 trees have been downed by the wind, with the most critical situations recorded in Muravera, San Vito, and along the coastal areas.
