Restrictions at sea, constant planes overhead. With war on Europe's doorstep, it's the summer of military maneuvers, the summer of 2025 in Sardinia. Shooting ranges are prohibited by convention.

But the Coast Guard continues to issue orders prohibiting navigation for the purpose of searching for and clearing up bombs left on the seabed after exercises. This includes operations near beaches frequented by swimmers. And the maps of the week's air activity show the routes of complex missions and training operations, both west and east of the island, involving Italian and American aircraft.

Boeing reconnaissance aircraft, Gulfstream spy planes, and ATR patrol aircraft flew from Sigonella (a Sicilian base) to Quirra, performing complex maneuvers over the Tyrrhenian Sea and even transiting Cagliari. Meanwhile, fighter pilots from the Decimomannu International Air Force training school trained above the Costa Verde: umbrellas down, they're on their way.

The latest (public) document is an order from the Arbatax Maritime District Office. It establishes that from August 15th to September 20th, the state-owned armaments company, Leonardo Spa, "will conduct seabed research and cleanup operations to remove debris from military exercises."
