A well-structured organization, with significant financial resources, and accomplices with specific tasks in Cagliari, the rest of Sardinia, and Algeria. A "hub" in the city center, the headquarters of the main illegal activities, with migrants themselves as the primary victims. Unfortunately, during these journeys of hope, there have been tragedies: at least five confirmed deaths.
The leader of the group, busted at dawn Thursday by the Flying Squad, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office, with the execution of eight prison sentences, was Jassim Ahmed Dali, 26, an Algerian longtime resident of Vallermosa with an operational base in Cagliari. According to investigations by investigators coordinated by director Davide Carboni and Public Prosecutor Danilo Tronci, he was in charge of everything, issuing the orders: recruiting migrants to be transported to Sardinia for a fee of €2,500, locating the boats and smugglers responsible for the sea crossings, selecting the days and times of departure, providing assistance upon arrival on the southern coast of the island and subsequently at reception centers, and even preparing the false documents to allow the migrants to leave Sardinia and reach France and the rest of Europe.
Other Algerians were involved in the counterfeiting of forms for international protection requests and the trade of documents, between Piazza Matteotti and Piazza del Carmine.
