The Tempio prosecutor, Gregorio Capasso, had said at the end of his closing speech that in the judgment on Michele Fresi's case his painful personal story (abandonment by his mother, drug abuse) must also be taken into account .

The Assize Court of Sassari did not accept the magistrate's request for 30 years of imprisonment and imposed a life sentence with one year of daytime isolation on the young man who, on December 27, 2023, beat his father Giovanni to death with a stick .

Michele Fresi's lawyer, Pierfranco Tirotto, commented on the verdict immediately after the hearing: "A decision that fails to take into account my client's personal history. We await the reasons and will appeal."

The expert assessment ordered by the judges was crucial: Michele Fresi was declared competent. As he left the courtroom, the young man from Arzachena said: "I'm ready, I'll serve my sentence. I'm already in prison."
