All acquitted. The Cagliari Court of Appeal completely overturns the Oristano Tribunal's verdict and dismisses the alleged corruption scheme involving public administration, technicians, and businesses with a full acquittal. "The fact does not exist," the judges ruled.
Salvatore Pinna, an engineer from Tonara and owner of Essepi Engineering (who had been sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in the first instance), was acquitted on two counts of corruption; Rinaldo Arangino, the former mayor of Belvì (who had been sentenced to 6 years); and Pier Paolo Sau, the former mayor of Tonara (who had been sentenced to 4 years and 3 months). Pinna, Arangino, and the former deputy mayor of Ortueri, Pietro Crobu, were acquitted on another count due to the statute of limitations.
Great satisfaction for defenders Massimiliano Ravenna, Gianfranco Sollai and Daniela Russo.
