Mayor Caio Duilio Viti was sworn in last night, becoming the fifth mayor since Sant'Antonio di Gallura gained administrative autonomy in 1979. Viti, who succeeded himself for his third consecutive term, appointed the following councilors: Giovanni Pitturru, deputy mayor, with responsibility for public works, urban planning, and sports; Lucia Pirina, for budget, planning, and personnel; Christian Filippeddu, for social and cultural services, education, and healthcare; and Vanni Deiana, for maintenance, the environment, and agriculture. Caio Duilio Viti was confirmed as mayor of the municipality with a consensus that he himself described as exceeding expectations. "I was confident in the result, but I didn't expect such a strong turnout," he stated, emphasizing the value of turnout in an election characterized by only one list.
Among the administration's priorities is restoring public water to the town. The municipality aims to resolve a dispute with the water utility Abbanoa and reactivate a pipeline that has provided residents with potable water for decades. The first City Council meeting also approved the cancellation of tax bills related to municipal taxes. This measure, the mayor considers not only administrative, but also symbolic, aimed at strengthening the relationship of trust between institutions and taxpayers.
Viti touted the progress made in recent years: Sant'Antonio, despite being part of the depopulation crisis affecting many inland towns in Sardinia, continues to maintain services and tourist appeal. Finally, special attention will be paid to the elderly. The most ambitious project of his mandate will be the construction of a retirement home integrated with the future municipal swimming pool and gym, to foster social interaction and inclusion between generations.
