Investigations are still underway to identify the causes and possible responsibilities for the terrible fire that destroyed seven pleasure boats and motor yachts moored in the tourist port of Castelsardo on 6 December. Five burnt boats had sunk, waiting to be brought to the surface and removed from the water mirror of the Levante quay.
The intervention of the Coast Guard of the Port Torres Captaincy in collaboration with the maritime office of Castelsardo made it possible to remove all traces of pollution, materials and hydrocarbons removed with absorbent bannas and boats made safe to avoid releasing environmental risks. A formal notice and an ordinance against the owners for the recovery of the sinking pleasure craft has been issued by the Turritana Captaincy.
A month later, the sunken motor yachts, boats from 12 to 14 meters, are still found in the depths of the tourist port, waiting for the methods to be defined to identify the company specialized in their removal. Only then, assures the Captaincy, will it be possible to carry out investigations on the dynamics of the fire, the cause of which could be traced back to a short circuit.
