Sardinian billiards has its undisputed king, and he's a source of local pride. Matteo Sanna, 41, from Decimomannu and a member of the "Filotto 2.0" club in Assemini, achieved a historic double, becoming Regional Overall Champion and Regional Excellence Champion, dominating the Coppa Sardegna season.
Sanna's passion for this sport, which requires self-control and perfect mental and physical balance, is deeply rooted in his local community: he began playing at just 15 years old in a bar in Decimomannu, later joining the renowned billiards hall in Assemini, run by president Alessandro Ladu. For ten years, Sanna was also an active local entrepreneur, owning the Champion's Club in his hometown, combining his passion for the sport with his professional commitment.
The titles he's won in recent days crown an extraordinary career, which has seen him compete for ten years in the prestigious Masters category. After six challenging regional events that saw him almost always on the podium, Sanna secured the Overall title. His crowning achievement came on June 14th in the Eccellenza championship final, where the champion from Decime defeated National Fabio Mura, receiving the award from regional president Paolo Scaramuzzi.
This success elevates the name of Decimomannu and the Assemini stable, a rapidly growing environment thanks to targeted investments and the presence of top champions. For Matteo Sanna, the future now holds his most anticipated challenge: at the end of June, he will lead the Sardinian team to the Italian Championships in Saint-Vincent, where he will attempt to claim the top national titles.
