Starting tomorrow, the Moby ship Bunifazziu will resume sailings between Santa Teresa di Gallura and Bonifacio, resuming connections that have been interrupted for days.
The service had been suspended since February 1st due to problems encountered on the Giraglia vessel, which—subject to inspections by French authorities—was stranded in the Corsican port awaiting the necessary clearance to navigate the stretch of international waters separating Sardinia from Corsica. Ten kilometers of sea, from coast to coast, were impossible to cover because all three vessels designated for the shuttle service between Santa Teresa Gallura and Bonifacio were unable to operate.
"The period from January 16th to March 31st should have been assigned to Ichnusa Lines," the company stated in a press release. "The latter, encountering delays in its scheduled maintenance period, asked Moby to step in to assist during their assigned period. Unfortunately, the Bunifazziu ferry, which was scheduled for its annual maintenance during this same period, had a mandatory deadline for its lifeboat inspection, so it was not immediately available."
"In order to guarantee service and support Ichnusa Lines," Moby adds, "the company immediately prepared the Giraglia motor vessel, which was also laid up for scheduled maintenance. Unfortunately, during the work, it encountered some requirements from the French authorities, which are currently being resolved. Despite all these issues, in keeping with the collaboration requested by Ichnusa Lines and the service to travelers in Sardinia and Corsica, Moby managed to prepare the Bunifazziu in record time, which will return to service tomorrow, weather permitting."
