Fruit and vegetables were placed in strategic locations after the Punta Molentis fire to ensure the survival of the remaining fauna . The wildlife-herpetological working group of the Villasimius Marine Protected Area deployed them a few days after the fire (July 27th) to survey the area and assess the current condition of the Punta Molentis flora and fauna. The fruit and vegetables were consumed almost immediately .
In the first few days of monitoring, a small striped wild boar was spotted wandering among the ashes, as well as a weasel and some birds. "Unfortunately," the working group explains, "two female Hermann's tortoises (Testudo hermanni) were found dead, likely due to the extremely high temperature or suffocation ." Several signs of resistance were observed: young lizards, gongils, and dwarf algerids survived and were immediately relocated to safer areas. Ants, wasps, and grasshoppers—the first invertebrates—are already returning.
"Six days after the fire," the Marine Area emphasized in a statement, thanking Lara Bassu, Fabio Cherchi, and Valeria Nulchis for their hard work, "the cattails and rushes have already begun to sprout again: nature, even when wounded, does not give up."
