The Union of Municipalities of Marghine is crumbling in the face of a political storm. Six out of ten mayors have signed a document calling for the immediate start of a new management phase for the institution . However, this has created a situation that threatens to dramatically divide the territory.

The call for the opening of a new political and administrative phase is being made, through a revision of the programmatic guidelines and a renewal of the institutional and governing bodies of the Authority , therefore with the immediate resignation of the current president, Franco Scanu, mayor of Sindia , and of the executive council , whose term expires in December.

The six mayors, Francesco Manconi (Bolotana), Tore Ghisu (Borore), Patrizia Tomassetti (Bortigali), Nino Muroni (Dualchi), Federica Arca (Birori), and Michele Corda (Noragugume), formally request that the assembly be urgently convened and proceed with the dismissal of the executive board and the election of a new president and members of the same board.

"During several assembly meetings, the undersigned have formally represented the need to open a new political and administrative phase in the life of the Union," the document states, "given that the institution has been in a situation of substantial governance precariousness for too long, which risks compromising its full operation and ability to respond to the needs of member municipalities. Following the local elections held in June, the executive bodies that comprise the Union's Council have not yet been formally reconstituted, as required by the statute."

The document states: "The proposal does not arise from a desire for opposition, but from the need to restore to the Union of Municipalities an authoritative leadership, shared and fully legitimized by the mayors' discussions, in the best interests of the territory."

The six mayors are calling for the election of a president, the election of members of the executive board, and decisions to relaunch the Union's administrative and planning activities. Everything must happen quickly. "It is necessary to take, with a sense of responsibility and without further delay, the decisions needed to restore the institution to full operational readiness." However, a political clash is looming.

"The unity of the territory," says Macomer's mayor, Riccardo Uda, "cannot be announced with an act of war." The response to the action of the six mayors who signed the document will be given during a press conference announced by the mayor of Macomer and the other three non-signatory mayors next week.

In fact, although the six signatory mayors represent the majority in the Union of Municipalities, in terms of inhabitants they represent approximately 6,500, while the minority represents over 13,000.
