There's a lot of attention on the June 7th and 8th elections for the Maracalagonis City Council. Two lists are campaigning, seeking a vote primarily through door-to-door canvassing. The two parties are proposing Francesca Fadda, 39, and agronomist Luigi Orrù, 60, for mayor. For several months, the town has been governed by a Special Commissioner appointed after the budget was rejected and the last City Council meeting was dissolved. There are 32 councilor candidates, sixteen for each of the two parties. Many young people are running, including many women.

Francesca Fadda, outgoing mayor, says that with the "Vivere Maracalagonis" list, the aim is to "focus on administrative continuity, leveraging the results achieved in recent years and relaunching new strategic projects. All this with a coalition full of ideas and a strong desire to get things done. We want a modern, inclusive Maracalagonis capable of creating opportunities, focusing on participation, transparency, and listening to citizens as a method of governance. Give us another chance to work for you, and we won't disappoint you."

Luigi Orrù, candidate for mayor on the "Maracalagonis Guarda Avanti" list, says, "I have a list I deeply believe in: people who bring real expertise, administrative experience, vision, and new ideas. A team united by the same concrete desire to build Maracalagonis's future, not manage the present. This is the difference we want to make. Maracalagonis deserves to grow again. We are ready to do it. All together."

Meanwhile, the election campaign continues. Readers are being made aware of the programs. Luigi Orrù says that "our project stems from a clear conviction: Maracalagonis doesn't lack resources, it lacks method. This is why the first thing we will do is change the way we govern: planning, deciding, and reporting every decision to the citizens, without improvisation or empty announcements. The most urgent priority is the Municipal Urban Plan. The PUC has been stuck since 2003, and the failure to adapt to the Regional Landscape Plan has stalled everything: construction, businesses, roads, services. And it has deprived our young people of the real possibility of building a home here, in the town where they were born. Unblocking this process isn't bureaucracy: it's the prerequisite for restarting the development of the area, from residential to agricultural areas, from the industrial zone—which needs to be expanded—to the coastal and hilly tourist areas. I also want – concludes Luigi Orrù – that the “Craboni Park” returns to being a lively and safe place: not an image operation, but a serious redevelopment project».

Orrù also addresses the issue of digital. "I want every citizen, in Torre delle Stelle and Monti Nieddu, to have the same connectivity opportunities. Fiber optics everywhere and a Smart Center where no one is left behind in the face of digital transformation. Regarding the economy, the Municipality must stop being just a controller and become an ally of businesses: less bureaucracy, clear rules, and consistent timelines. Agriculture, craftsmanship, commerce, and sustainable tourism are the levers we are focusing on to create real jobs. Regarding social issues, we need to find stable housing for the elderly and real spaces for young people. On roads and transportation, we will work directly with ANAS, the Region, CTM, and ARST to accelerate the SS 554 and improve connections with Cagliari."

Francesca Fadda, for her part, describes the Vivere Maracalagonis list's program as "ambitious and concrete for the country's future, based on development, jobs, and quality of life. It focuses on administrative continuity, leveraging the results achieved in recent years and relaunching new strategic projects for the region: 59 projects underway, including the Via Dante health center, the swimming pool and guesthouse, the renovation of Casa Cocco and the former Town Hall, with funds already funded and ready to be deployed. Priorities include completing the new Municipal Urban Plan, which will be my first item on the City Council agenda if I win, as well as revitalizing the construction industry, enhancing coastal areas, and supporting local businesses. Great attention is paid to young people, with employment incentives; by creating projects, we are creating jobs, new meeting spaces, support for sports, and projects dedicated to education, culture, and innovation. Administrative efficiency is also central, with a more digital, fast-paced, and citizen-friendly public administration."

Fadda adds that "the program also focuses on environmental protection and sustainability, with investments in public green spaces, renewable energy, combating degradation, and enhancing the area's natural and touristic heritage. Public works also receives significant attention: road maintenance, new parking lots, urban redevelopment, improved lighting, and the expansion of sports and school infrastructure. My coalition also highlights the projects already completed between 2020 and 2026, including cemetery work, urban redevelopment, investments in schools, sports, public parks, and environmental services, thanks to regional, state, and PNRR funding."
