Gualtiero Gessa, the policeman from Maracalagonis, who died on March 31, 2005 during a helicopter exercise, was remembered today in the village with a mass celebrated in the parish by Don Eugenio Cocco and with a visit to the tomb, where a crown was placed. The tragedy at the end of March 2005: Gualtiero Gessa was on board, with two pilots, an AB206 State Police helicopter. The aircraft had taken off from Abbasanta, headed for Borore when it lost altitude by grazing a wire mesh of a fence and crashing to the ground.
To have the worst was Gessa who died in hospital in Nuoro. The doctors tried to save him with surgery, but it was all in vain. The news of his death aroused great condolences in Maracalagonis. The Municipality has dedicated the park to him, reopened last week after a few years.
