A targeted operation by the Carabinieri of the local station led to the discovery in the countryside of Maracalagonis of a greenhouse "bunker" used for the cultivation of marijuana .

A 25-year-old local farmer, above suspicion and with no criminal record, was arrested . 14 kilos of marijuana were seized.

The unusual movements near the farmhouses and the presence of a warehouse with an unusual armored door had aroused the suspicions of the military, who thus began observation operations that lasted for days.

Last night, after gathering various pieces of evidence and clues, the raid began. Once past the armored door, the officers found an indoor cannabis cultivation facility , fully equipped with artificial lighting and ventilation. The search was then extended to the entire facility, owned by the young farmer.

Fourteen kilograms of marijuana , already processed and stored in paper bags and plastic packaging, and 115 cannabis seedlings planted inside the greenhouse were seized. In addition to the narcotic, five bags of seeds ready for new cultivation were recovered, along with various weighing and packaging tools, as well as over €1,000 in cash, believed to be the likely proceeds of drug dealing. The young man's situation was further aggravated by the discovery of 20 rifle cartridges, held without authorization .

The farmer was taken to Uta prison pending a sentencing hearing: he is charged with cultivation and possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and illegal possession of ammunition.
