Mayor Umberto Oppus bluntly called it "a historic day for Mandas in the name of hydrogen and renewable energy."

Regional Industry Councilor Emanuele Cani and his cabinet chief Guido Portoghese, along with ARST executives, visited the construction site for the green hydrogen production plant, which will power the new trains on the Monserrato-Mandas-Isili line and other means of transport in the region.

"This is," said the regional councilor, "a very important and innovative project that addresses the energy transition. The project, launched by the Sardinia Region, ARST, and the Municipality of Mandas, promises to represent not only added environmental value but also an economic opportunity."

The plant in the upper Trexenta town will be the first of three green hydrogen production facilities that ARST will build in the region – along with those in Alghero and Macomer – thanks to PNRR funds earmarked for sustainable mobility.

"The project has the merit of laying the foundation for the creation of a new energy production and use chain, in the interests of businesses and citizens in our communities," concluded Councilor Cani.
