A brutal, motiveless crime. One that deserves thirty years in prison: that's the sentence requested by prosecutor Milena Aucone for Michele Fresi, the twenty-eight-year-old from Arzachena on trial in the Assize Court in Sassari on charges of killing his father, Giovanni, a 58-year-old goldsmith, by hitting him on the head with a large stick on the night between December 27 and 28, 2023, while under the influence of a massive mix of drugs.
During his closing speech, the prosecutor—also attended by Tempio Pausanias Prosecutor Gregorio Capasso —ruled out a life sentence and focused on the human story of a caring father and a son marked by a difficult life marked by drug abuse.
On the night of the murder, it was Michele's father who ran into the center of Arzachena to try to calm him down, who had been completely out of control after taking heavy doses of amphetamines, cocaine, acid, and alcohol. Before rushing out into the street and causing panic with a baseball bat, the 28-year-old had beaten and stunned a friend at home. Then, when his father arrived, he lunged at him, hitting him in the head with the same bat, killing him. Two Carabinieri officers who intervened to arrest him were also seriously injured. The hearing continues with the lawyers for the civil parties, Giampaolo Murrighile, Jacopo Merlini, Valentina Gobbi, Massimo Schirò, and Fabio Baldinu.
The court will return on September 23rd for Fresi's defense attorney, Pierfranco Tirotto, to deliver his closing arguments and then to issue the sentence.
