Man sentenced to seven years for attempted murder after hitting father with chair

Antonio Melis , 39 years old, originally from Oliena, was locked up in the Badu 'e Carros prison to serve a sentence of 7 years, 3 months and 22 days for the attempted murder of his father , Pasquale Melis , a 69-year-old retired former carabiniere.
Carabinieri from the Oliena station accompanied him to prison in compliance with an order issued by the Attorney General's Office at the Sassari Court of Appeal.
The attempted murder dates back to February 2, 2024, in Torpè, when Antonio Melis , after threatening his father with a knife, hit him several times with a chair , causing serious head injuries.
In the first instance, the preliminary hearing judge of the Nuoro Court, with an abbreviated trial, upgraded the crime from attempted murder to serious injury and sentenced the 39-year-old to 4 years in prison.
The Prosecutor's Office appealed and the Sassari Court of Appeal overturned the first instance sentence, convicting Antonio Melis of attempted murder .
