He allegedly raped his half-sister, who was still a child, for six years, then filmed the sexual encounters and sold them on the dark web. The charges are extremely serious, and the investigation is ongoing, as the Postal Police is reportedly searching servers around the world to track down the buyers of the videos. Meanwhile, however, yesterday morning the young man who allegedly severely abused his sister appeared before a judge: the prosecution is requesting 16 years in prison (starting from a 24-year sentence with a one-third reduction for his decision to undergo a fast-track trial).
The investigation
To write this story, it is essential to report only the facts contested by the Prosecutor's Office, but without providing any details that could in any way identify the young victim. For this reason, the newspaper will not report the ages of the victim or the defendant, opting for the necessary vagueness. Deputy Prosecutor Gilberto Ganassi's investigation began this year when, as part of a small-time drug dealing investigation, the police seized a young man's cell phone. Upon examining the device, however, investigators immediately noticed the presence of a large number of prohibited videos, some of which had been sold online, alerting the District Attorney's Office, which then began an investigation.
The alleged violence
The abuse, according to investigators, began when the girl had just entered elementary school and continued through middle school. The accused and the alleged victim shared a common father: the accused is the son of a previous marriage. No one would have discovered anything if, following an investigation into a small-time drug dealing case, the boy's cell phone had not been seized by judicial authorities. Examination of the smartphone's memory revealed videos depicting years of abuse and violence against the girl, who later became a teenager. But that's not all. Investigators from the Postal and Telecommunications Police also discovered that some of the videos were given or sold on the dark web, a popular destination for criminals hunting for prohibited material.
In the dark web
And it is precisely in the depths of the deepest internet that Polpost agents, along with colleagues from across Europe and the FBI (in the United States), are reportedly trying to determine who might have received or purchased that material. While all is silent, the young man has since been sent to trial with an immediate verdict: in addition to the charge of rape of the minor, the District Attorney's Office is also charging him with crimes related to the distribution of computer files.
The process
And yesterday morning, the boy, just over 18, appeared before Judge Giulia Tronci. The defendant, currently in custody, and his defense counsel agreed to a fast-track trial, a decision that would allow him to reduce his sentence by a third if convicted. The alleged minor victim and the mother's family also joined the case as civil plaintiffs. During a lengthy closing argument, held behind closed doors, Prosecutor Ganassi recounted the entire case, concluding with a request for a sentence starting at 24 years, later reduced to 16 under the fast-track trial. The trial was subsequently adjourned until February for the remaining parties and sentencing.
