One kilo and three hundred grams of pure heroin, divided into 116 ovules, were transported hidden in the stomach of a man who landed at Elmas airport.

The drugs were intercepted by the Finance Police of the 1st Metropolitan Operational Unit of Cagliari and by officials of the Customs and Monopolies Agency during routine checks at the Cagliari airport.

The courier, a Nigerian citizen residing in Lazio , had arrived in Sardinia on a flight from Belgium. What betrayed him were the dog units' keen sense of smell and his own behavior: visibly confused and unable to justify the reason for his trip, he prompted the Guardia di Finanza and customs officials to conduct a more thorough check.

After the prosecutor's office gave the green light, the man was rushed to Brotzu Hospital. There, suspicions became certainties: X-rays revealed a shocking "image" of foreign bodies inside the man's digestive tract. As mentioned, a total of 116 ovules were recovered, weighing 1.320 kg of heroin. In addition to the drugs, the officers seized the man's cell phone and SIM card, evidence that could now prove valuable in tracing the individuals involved in the illegal trafficking and the distribution network in Sardinia.

The courier was sent to Uta prison on charges of international drug trafficking.
