Mameli Murder: The Moments Before the Murder Caught on Camera: "Stay There or I'll Sting You"

The tense moments of the murder of Marco Mameli, 22, from Ilbono, killed with three stab wounds during the Bari Sardo carnival on March 1, 2025, were captured on camera. The footage doesn't clearly show the crime, but voices can be heard and the young men can be seen confronting each other and running away. The footage was shown yesterday morning in the Cagliari Assize Court by Deputy Police Commissioner Fabio Di Lella, head of the Nuoro Flying Squad, who led the investigation that culminated in the indictment of 28-year-old Giampaolo Migali, from Girasole, arrested six months after the crime on charges of aggravated homicide.

"Stay there or I'll sting you."

The young man from Ilbono was killed shortly after 11 p.m., in the street, following an argument. According to the prosecution, before fatally stabbing Mameli, the defendant allegedly injured another young man from Ilbono, Andrea Contu, 27. Migali himself confessed to the wounding at the police station the following day, but consistently denied killing the other man. The images shown yesterday did not actually show the crime, which occurred in a location not captured by the cameras. In the audio clips cleaned by the forensic police, however, a "Ti occo, ti occo, ti occo" (translated by the investigator as "I'll kill you, I'll kill you, I'll kill you," but not attributable to the defendant) can be heard at one point, followed a few seconds later by the image of Migali with an outstretched arm (according to the officer, he was holding the knife) and yelling, "I'll stab you, stay there or I'll stab you." This reconstruction is contested by lawyers Francesca Ferrai and Maria Leonida Cadoni, who are defending the 28-year-old, who remained silent throughout the hearing.
