A race against time to save foals and mares in desperate conditions : associations, volunteers and politicians are taking action to help eighteen malnourished, thirsty and sick horses on a farm in Thiesi.

Following numerous reports of animal deaths, the Lida Olbia branch and the Islander Onlus project intervened at the indicated location, a privately owned piece of land, to investigate the alleged mistreatment. "Eighteen horses, nine mares, two stallions, and seven foals, some malnourished, all infested with parasites and infected wounds, were searching for water in empty buckets, no hay bales, a pasture of insufficient brushwood and a graveyard of bones, carcasses scattered both aboveground and partially covered, four skulls, and a shed, unsafe, with a portion of the roof collapsed and strewn with feces," say Islander Onlus, an association founded to promote horse protection initiatives, which promises to fight to determine responsibility in the incident.

Yesterday morning, Lida in Olbia delivered supplies of hay and water, while waiting for the horses to be taken care of and found a stable. "At Lida, we are ready to support any necessary action to ensure these animals receive the care and assistance they need, and we hope the competent authorities can intervene decisively."

The case was reported to the Carabinieri station in Thiesi by Five Star Movement MP Susanna Cherchi, who was involved with the activists: "The absurd and shameful thing is that a month ago, the relevant local health authority (ASL) conducted an inspection and certified that the horses were fine, despite the remains of numerous carcasses, with at least five horse heads and bones scattered all over the ground."

The inspection of the farm was carried out together with the Carabinieri, the Forestry Corps and the Fire Brigade.
