Malagò: «Cagliari Stadium an example of the complexities of building new facilities»
The President of Coni in the Sardinian capital for a meeting with local sports representativesVisit to Cagliari for Giovanni Malagò, president of Coni, who met with local sports representatives this morning. The occasion was also used to talk about the stadium issue, with Cagliari Calcio waiting for the green light to be able to concretely begin construction of the new facility that will be built where now there is - abandoned for over seven years - what remains of Sant'Elia. Also with a view to the 2032 European Championships, which will be hosted by Italy and Turkey.
" I believe that Cagliari is in some ways an example of the complexities of managing to build a new facility ," says Malagò, "despite the intention of everyone to collaborate, starting with the company, local authorities and the support of national institutions. Then along the way you encounter obstacles, including financial ones. And obviously over time you have to see what has changed."
The situation of the Sardinian capital is certainly not the only one with problems in Italy: " However, Cagliari is not alone, it is in good company with other cities ", underlines the president of Coni, at a time when the list of stadiums that will host the European Championships in eight years has not yet been defined. "Then there is also the fact that local administrations change, so it is right that those who arrive want to understand and see. I cannot be a cheerleader: we as Coni are totally collaborative in terms of usability, approvals, preventive opinions regarding projects".
On the issue of funds, Malagò cannot expose himself: « From a financial point of view, in our role we do not have the possibility of being able to lend a hand. We hope that everything can be resolved well ».
