They were installed in front of the municipal library, next to Corso Umberto, and in Piazza Sant'Antonio, thus at key points in the town. These two automated external defibrillators, donated by the community, were purchased through a fundraising effort launched by the social media group "Sei di Macomer se..." (You are from Macomer if...") with the "Double Heartbeat of Solidarity" project. This unique initiative translates solidarity into a concrete gesture capable of saving lives.
The initiative took shape from a shared reflection within the group, which raised awareness of the importance of lifesaving procedures and the use of a defibrillator . This was initiated by the administrator of the social media group, Gianfranca Deriu, and welcomed by other group members, such as Simona Castori, Umberta Pusceddu, Antonella Martini, and Marco Benevole, giving rise to a project that has grown day by day thanks to the contributions of many.
This initiative was strengthened thanks to the collaboration of the Macomer branch of Avis, led by President Francesco Sussarellu, who had already planned to purchase an external defibrillator. Thus was born the "Double Heartbeat of Solidarity" project, an initiative whose very name conveys the profound meaning of a shared commitment. The local response was exceptional. Numerous residents and business owners, not only from Macomer, participated in the purchase of the two defibrillators. Many hosted donation boxes in their businesses, helping to make the collection widespread and participatory. Alongside solidarity, significant attention was also given to training. Marco Benevole, in addition to designing the entire graphic design for the initiative, also hosted a free day dedicated to lifesaving procedures and AED use at the Maart Intermodale.
This event was made possible thanks to the dedication of trainers, including Danilo Masala and Giorgio Sanna, who offered their expertise free of charge. Giordano Communication Srl also contributed by printing the informational materials and creating the stickers applied to the devices. The municipality oversaw the technical aspects of the installation and ensured the electricity supply. The devices will be open and easily accessible to all, and from this experience a shared desire was born: to continue promoting free training sessions to further spread the culture of first aid. "A story about community, collaboration, and shared responsibility," wrote a statement from the project's creators, "because when an idea is embraced and supported by many, it can truly transform into something that makes a difference for everyone."
