Everything is ready for the great peace demonstration. The Municipality of Macomer, along with the Diocese of Alghero-Bosa, has joined the XXXIX Peace March, organized by the Caritas Sardinia Regional Delegation, in collaboration with the CSV Sardegna Solidale. The march will take place on Sunday afternoon in Macomer, with a meeting in the Church of the Madonna Missionaria.
There is a large mobilization, and representatives of the Region and local authorities, associations, diocesan Caritas organizations and Caritas Sardinia, schools and volunteers, priests, lay people, men and women religious, families, and the community as a whole are expected to attend. This wide-ranging march will reflect on how to address the spiral of hatred that continues to generate conflicts around the world, but also negatively impacts relationships between people.
"We have long understood that only by disarming the war within ourselves, in our communities, and in our families, can we aspire to authentic peace," the organizing committee wrote in a statement. "A peace that also brings justice to our Sardinia, which fully experiences the contradictions of the Western world—a land of war experimentation, weapons manufacturing, and ongoing energy speculation. A land where many people lack access to fundamental rights such as health and healthcare, employment, and a dignified life. It is increasingly clear that the problems of our microcosm are linked to those of the macrocosm, and this is why it is important for all of us to rediscover authentic motivations for civic engagement that are not extemporaneous, but radical and ongoing."
The March will be presided over by the Bishop of Alghero-Bosa, Father Mauro Maria Morfino, and will be attended by Monsignor Antonello Mura, President of the Sardinian Episcopal Conference, and other bishops from Sardinia . The gathering will take place at 3:00 PM on Sunday in front of the Church of the Madonna Missionaria, where a prayer vigil will be held, presided over by Cardinal Dominique Joseph Mathieu, Archbishop of Tehran-Ispahan of the Latins in Iran . The march will begin at 3:30 PM and follow the following route: Via Toscana, Piazza S. Antonio, Via Gramsci, Via Castelsardo, Via Emilio Lussu, Viale Pietro Nenni, Viale Sant'Antonio, Via Umbria, Piazza Italia, and Via Emilia. It will conclude at the Church of the Madonna Missionaria.
