That garage in the center of Macomer had become a drug warehouse. Over 55 kilos of marijuana had been found by the Carabinieri when they arrested Maurizio Cuccu, 37, for possession and trafficking five years ago.
The legal case concluded today: investigating judge Federica Fulgheri recognized mitigating circumstances and sentenced the 38-year-old, assisted by lawyer Luciano Rubattu, to three years. Prosecutor Valerio Bagattini had requested a sentence of four years and eight months.
The facts date back to August 2020: Cuccu was arrested for hiding over 55 kilos of marijuana in his garage, inside four bins and a bucket. The drug had an average THC content of 9 percent, for a total of five kilos of active ingredient, equivalent to 203,000 average single doses. This large quantity was immediately contested by investigators.
