For the eighth consecutive year, Nicolò Vellino has won the "Tre Coni Gambero Rosso" award, the highest recognition awarded to Italy's best artisanal gelato shops . This triumph was achieved in Naples at the international gelato and pastry show, where the important exhibition showcasing the excellence of renowned Italian gelato making took place.
The 51-year-old master ice cream maker from Macomer, who operates in Macomer and Nuoro with "Dolci Sfizi" , confirms himself, once again, among the best ice cream shops in Italy.
After extensive experience in Spain, France, and especially in Lugano, Switzerland, the master ice cream maker from Macomer chose not to work in renowned tourist areas near the sea, but immediately preferred to stay in Macomer and Nuoro. " I invested in the hinterland, convinced that there is a lot to do here and that it can become an attractive area . I work with typical local products, thanks to collaboration with companies and producers on our island, using Malvasia di Bosa, saffron, extra virgin olive oil and honey from Bolotana, prickly pears and pear distillate from Dualchi, citrus fruits from Milis, nougat from Tonara, persimmons from Oliena, mandarins from Galtellì, and blackberries from Mount Sant'Antonio di Macomer, therefore also mushrooms, such as s'Antunna, as well as, of course, local milk and zero-kilometer sheep's milk ricotta." I only import cocoa beans that I go and select in Colombia, to ensure that the cultivation is eco-sustainable and free from child exploitation."
King of Italian gelato makers for the eighth consecutive year. "Receiving this award for the eighth consecutive year is a source of great pride for me," says Vellino. "Behind this result are years of study, research, sacrifice, passion , and constant attention to the quality of the raw materials and craftsmanship . I thank Gambero Rosso for this important recognition and for their work promoting Italian artisanal excellence. A special thanks goes to my family, who supports me every day, and to all the customers whose trust allows us to continue to grow. This award belongs to you too."
