Large fire between 554 and the Policlinico: buildings threatened, five helicopters and a Canadair in flight

A large fire broke out late this morning between State Road 554 and the Policlinico Hospital, on land near State Road 387. It started in the Santa Rosa area in the Selargius district and spread to the towns of Monserrato, Serdiana, and Donori. Five helicopters, a Canadair, and ground crews were required to put it out.
A thick column of smoke was visible for many kilometers from early afternoon: the flames threatened several buildings. One man was rescued and taken away by firefighters.
According to reports , the fire started in some brushwood, then spread to trees and debris scattered across the large area . As the minutes passed, the fire, driven by the wind, moved in various directions. The operations coordinator requested the intervention of two helicopters from the regional fleet, a SuperPuma, a military helicopter, and the only Canadair currently in Sardinia, which departed from Olbia. Subsequently, the intervention of another Army helicopter became necessary. Firefighters from the Cagliari command also participated in the extinguishing operations. The fire was eventually extinguished.
State Road 387 towards Dolianova and Soleminis was closed to traffic for some time. The surface metro on the Settimo–San Gottardo stretch was also affected. Service is suspended until further notice from ARST.
