Yesterday, in Caprera , there was the inauguration , after careful maintenance, of the mill-crusher that after 1861 Garibaldi had built to meet the needs of the increasingly large population of what is now called "the company Garibaldi” but which the Hero of the Two Worlds created in part inspired by the farms of South America where he had lived and above all fought for many years.

The symbolic ribbon of the inauguration of the restoration was cut by Francesco Muscolino , regional director of the Sardinian Museums , and by Luciano Cannas , project supervisor . The inauguration was attended, among others, by the deputy mayor of La Maddalena Federica Porcu , the commander of the MM military garrison, Simone Battisti , and that of the Port Authority, Renato Signorini .

The mill-crusher was used for the production of flour, wine and oil. An ambitious and modern work, it has been underlined, particularly dear to the Hero, who together with a skilled engineer, the Garibaldian Edoardo Barberini, after a careful study of the winds, elaborated the design and the sophisticated mechanism which, still today, after the maintenance intervention, is intact and functional. The novelty now is that not only the mill-crusher room is part of the museum itinerary of the Casa di Caprera but hosts events such as conferences, displays and exhibitions.
