The bids received following the previously published tender will be opened on March 5th. This announcement was made by the mayor of La Maddalena, Fabiola Lai, referring to the restoration and enhancement project of the "Nino Lamboglia" Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Over €2 million will be spent on this project, €1.34 million of which will be provided by the Municipality for restoration and expansion, and €678,000 by the National Park for energy efficiency improvements.
The museum houses Roman amphorae and other artifacts from a Roman-era ship that sank near the island of Spargi, recovered during excavations carried out in the early 1960s by Professor Lamboglia, after whom the museum is named. The process, the mayor emphasizes, "was not simple: the intervention required complex and detailed work, made particularly delicate by the presence of highly valuable archaeological finds and the need for constant and in-depth consultation with the relevant Superintendency." Naturally, it will take time for the work, once begun, to be completed and the facility to be made accessible to the public.
Once the project is completed, through the restoration and safety of the existing structure, as well as the functional expansion of the building with the creation of adequate visitor services, the museum will present itself as a "more modern, accessible and consistent structure, meeting the needs of a public interested in quality cultural enjoyment ."
