In La Maddalena the Isola bookstore has closed. "In a moment of grave difficulty - he writes - we are forced to close, in the collective regret of the many customers and friends who have followed us over the years, including those who come on holiday in the summer".
Located in the very central Via Vittorio Emanuele, La Libreria dell'Isola opened its doors back in 1992, although the owner, Paolo Sorba, had started years earlier, still a university student, to set up a book stall in the summer. For forty years it has been an important cultural stronghold, a meeting and social point for lovers of reading and not only , the sanctuary of memory and historical reconstruction, with many publications, of the events of the island (and its dialect), where the small village history has intertwined with the great national and European history.
Now, writes the Libreria dell'Isola, «urged and encouraged by the many, many friends of the bookshop, fellow citizens and loyal tourists who love the Island, we have decided to commit ourselves, with your help, to immediately reopen the bookshop and continue to offer our service». The publishing house (Paolo Sorba Editore) and the Libreria (dell'Isola) «have operated in perfect synergy so far: the latter has guaranteed the former good visibility and diffusion of its books, allowing the marketing of many publications that would otherwise have been lost in the sea magnum of large publishing groups and in the virtual reality of e-commerce. In this moment of difficulty for the Bookshop we think that Paolo Sorba Editore can and must intervene to still guarantee our City the presence of a point of sale, but alone we do not have the economic capacity to do so».
It is therefore necessary, and this is what is asked, "to lend a hand", a contribution. Where the institutions do not arrive, "solidarity and support can arrive from all those who have the same point of view as us, those who believe in the importance of keeping alive a fundamental point of reference in the reality of a town rich in memory such as La Maddalena".
