With part of the contribution of 200,000 euros assigned to La Maddalena by the Ministry of the Interior, as part of the support for small and medium-sized cities of art and villages particularly affected by the decrease in tourist flows during the Covid-19 epidemic, the the project of the Vela Latina Floating Museum.

This was announced by Stefano Cossu, delegate for Productive Activities, Events and Crafts. "The project consists in enhancing these historic boats which are an integral part of our history, with information and interactive panels in several languages to create a real open-air museum". The project, continues the delegate Cossu, "will be carried out in collaboration with the Associazione Velieri in Vela Latina, which has a fleet of about twenty boats in La Maddalena".

The idea is to create a digital panel for each boat, to be installed at the stern, measuring more or less than 50 x 70 cm., which will represent each boat as it was originally (a black and white photo or perhaps a old video), the QR Code in 4 or 5 languages which will provide information on the type of boat, measurements, characteristics, launch site, date, history, as well as a video relating to the boat itself. This is a project, explains Stefano Cossu, which was born in correlation with another, important one, which aims at the establishment in La Maddalena of a training school for shipwrights; project presented to the Region and awaiting, hopefully, funding.

The peculiarity of the Vela Latina Floating Museum will be that it can be itinerant, assuming particular importance when a certain number of the boats that will be equipped with it, as well as being moored in one of the islands of the La Maddalena archipelago, will go to join other ports, for tourism or to participate in regattas, representing the Museum itself in every single place. The delegate Stefano Cossu aims to create the Vela Latina Floating Museum for the beginning of the tourist season.
